Alumna Princess Ogbogu, M.D. (’00) selected for executive leadership program for women

Princess Ogbogu, M.D., a 2000 graduate of the NEOMED College of Medicine, has been named a member of the 2023-2024 class of fellows in the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program.

Dr. Ogbogu is chief of the Division of Allergy, Immunology and Rheumatology at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s and professor of pediatrics at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

The ELAM program is a yearlong part-time fellowship for women faculty in schools of medicine, dentistry, public health and pharmacy. Dedicated to developing the professional and personal skills required to lead and manage in today’s complex health care environment, the program pays special attention to the unique challenges facing women in leadership positions. More than 1,200 ELAM alumnae hold leadership positions in institutions around the world.

In a press release from University Hospitals, a major NEOMED affiliate, Daniel I. Simon, M.D., president, academic and external affairs and chief scientific officer, Ernie and Patti Novak Distinguished Chair in Health Care Leadership at UH, said, “We are so proud Dr. Ogbogu will represent University Hospitals as a fellow in this prestigious program designed for the best and brightest women in academic medicine. Dr. Ogbogu is a highly regarded physician and researcher, and this once in a lifetime experience will only strengthen her leadership and impact in the field of allergy and immunology.”

Dr. Ogbogu serves as chair of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI); is a member of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Review Committee for Allergy and Immunology; and holds leadership positions in several national committees with the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI) and the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (ACAAI).

Dr. Ogbogu is recognized as one or NEOMED’s Transformational Leaders. Among other honors and awards received throughout her career, she was named to the Top Doctors list by Cleveland Magazine and received the Castle Connolly Exceptional Women in Medicine award and The Ohio State University Courage to Teach award.
