The College of Medicine is excited to offer a unique opportunity for medical students to explore your personality and how it aligns with your future medical career.
Please note that participation involves multiple steps and requires approximately two hours of dedicated time.
Students will first complete the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessment online. After completing the assessment, students will schedule a separate one-hour individual appointment to review and discuss their results. During the appointment, we will examine your MBTI personality type in greater depth and consider how various preferences may relate to communication style, decision making, work environments, professional relationships and potential medical specialty interests.
The MBTI is intended as a self-reflection tool rather than a specialty-matching instrument, so students should be prepared to actively participate in the discussion and consider how the results relate to their own experiences and career-development goals. Following the appointment, you will receive report as you continue exploring specialties.
Students who are considering participation are encouraged to first review the AAMC Careers in Medicine article, “Using the MBTI in Medical Student Career Advising,” to better understand the purpose and scope of the assessment.
If, after reviewing the information, you would like to complete the full assessment and individual consultation process, please email [email protected]. You will then receive assessment instructions and information for scheduling an appointment.
Because these are individual appointments and require dedicated preparation and meeting time, availability may be limited. We look forward to working with students who are interested in completing this more in-depth self-assessment process.
