Counseling Services for Students

After-hours urgent crisis?
If you are experiencing an emotional or psychiatric crisis, here is where to get help at any hour.

Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Substances

Achieving academic and professional success is dependent upon students taking healthy approaches to achieve their goals. Alcohol consumption and drug use can impact academic performance and memory function not to mention affect relationships and other aspects of an individuals’ life.

As a health professions institution, NEOMED is committed to educating and encouraging all the members of its community to make healthy decisions regarding their behavior. Students who are concerned about their behavior or the behaviors of others are encouraged to contact the Center for Student Wellness and Counseling Services at counseling@neomed.edu or 330.325.6757 for additional information, or contact the local substance abuse agency.

Responsible alcohol use

  • Avoid alcohol if you are under 21, driving, pregnant, chemically dependent or on medication
  • One drink equals 12 ounces of beer, a 5 ounce glass of wine or 1.5 ounces (one shot) of 80 proof liquor
  • Men should limit alcohol consumption to one drink every hour and for women, one drink every 1.5 hours (due to differences in alcohol absorption rates)
  • Binge drinking (high risk for alcohol-related problems) is defined as four or more drinks in one drinking occasion for women and five or more drinks for men

Tobacco Free Campus

NEOMED implemented a campus-wide, tobacco-free policy, designed to protect the health and safety of its students, faculty, staff and campus visitors. The policy prohibits the use of tobacco anywhere on campus. This includes inside and outside buildings located on University property, in parking areas, as well as in any vehicles or equipment located on campus, or anywhere on campus grounds.
