Center Mission
The Akron-Region Interprofessional AHEC is a hosted-model center at the University of Akron that serves Summit and Portage counties in Ohio.
ARI-AHEC works closely with community partners to provide additional community-based opportunities such as an Active Aging and Wellness Fair, Wellness Wednesdays with public housing, and Minority Health Month events for these disciplines as well as for students from other schools and programs including Sports Science and Wellness, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Allied Health, Public Health, and Gerontology.
Support from The University of Akron Schools of Nursing and Nutrition/Dietetics as well as the Nursing Center for Community Health, the local health care community and the regional AHEC office at NEOMED we have been able to:
-establish center operations and recruiting a strong, broadly representative advisory board,
-develop a broad range of community relationships and partnerships,
-provide community based education experiences for students from a range of health professions programs at UA, NEOMED, and Kent State University, including medicine, nursing, nutrition, pharmacy, psychology, public health, social work, and speech language pathology & audiology, and support health career promotion and preparation programming
