Do Age, Gender Matter When It Comes to COVID-19?

In Summit County, Ohio — where many Northeast Ohio Medical University students perform clerkship and clinical rotations — younger women and older men are tending to test positive for COVID-19.

The reason behind this data?

“There’s only speculation at the moment,” Angelo DeLucia, Ph.D., an associate professor of molecular virology and cancer biology at Northeast Ohio Medical University, tells Akron Beacon Journal.

Dr. DeLucia shares that it’s not uncommon for gender disparities to appear in viral illnesses, like COVID-19, noting “it could be months before there’s conclusive data.”
