NEOMED researchers investigate the biological foundations of health and disease through sustained, inquiry-driven research. We’re in focused pursuit of answers to challenges in these seven categories.

Health Services

Scientists in our health services research area work to improve the health and healthcare of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.

Diabetes, Obesity & Metabolism

These researchers investigate the underlying mechanisms of some of the most common, costly and preventable of all health problems.

Education Research

This research focuses on how people learn, teach and assess in healthcare, developing evidence-based practices to improve training and student outcomes.

Hearing Research

These researchers examine how the central nervous system supports hearing, communication and swallowing, and explore interventions that may improve related disorders.

Heart and Blood Vessel Disease

This research advances our understanding of heart and blood vessel diseases to stop their progression and ultimately find more cures.

Musculoskeletal Research

We focus on developing the process of regrowing bone and tissue to address the needs of an aging population with arthritis, cancer, osteoporosis, bone fractures and related conditions.

Neurodegenerative Disease and Aging

Our research centers on three of the most common age‑related neurodegenerative diseases: Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and glaucoma.

The Watanakunakorn Student Fellowships provide funding for work focused on infectious diseases.

The Area Health Education Center

This center prepares undergraduate students in the health professions for successful careers by teaching them about social determinants of health, health disparities, interprofessional teamwork, and community-based care.
