Laxative Do’s and Don’ts

In this lecture, Dr. Dugan discusses the mechanisms of action, advantages, disadvantages, and special considerations for common laxatives. By the end of this lecture, you will be able to: 1) list laxative classes used to treat constipation, 2) identify common adverse effects of these agents, and 3) describe situations laxatives can best assist with.

Nicotine: Is It Good or Bad for People with Schizophrenia?

In this lecture, Dr. Dugan discusses the impact of nicotine on schizophrenia. By the end of this lecture, you will be able to: 1) describe the actions of nicotine on neurotransmitters, 2) list potential reasons for high use of nicotine products, specifically cigarettes in patients with schizophrenia, and 3) identify evidence of nicotine’s actions in patients with schizophrenia.
