In this lecture, Dr. Dugan discusses medications that commonly cause hyperprolactinemia and presents options for management. By the end of this lecture, you will be able to: 1) list the causes of elevated prolactin levels, 2) identify symptoms associated with elevated prolactin levels, and 3) compare the impact medications commonly used for mental health conditions have on prolactin levels.

MAO Inhibitors. How Do These Antidepressants Work and How to Use Them Safely

In this lecture, Dr. Dugan explains how the MAO inhibitors work and the mechanisms behind the potential risks. She also discusses the therapeutic benefits of these medications and how to use them safely. By the end of this lecture, you will be able to: 1) describe the mechanism of action of the monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), 2) identify relevant interactions of MAOIs with medications and foods, and 3) evaluate efficacy data of MAOIs in treatment of depression.
