NEOMED Match Day by the #’s!

On Friday, March 18, NEOMED’s fourth-year medicine students learned which residency programs they will train at for the next three to seven years following graduation. Staying true to the University’s mission of improving the health and economy of Northeast Ohio, 48% of our medicine students will be staying right here in Northeast Ohio.

Check out some of the Match Day results below, and stay tuned next week for more about the NEOMED College of Medicine Class of 2016 and where they will continue their training.

  • 100% match rate
  • 52% will remain in Ohio
  • 48% will remain in Northeast Ohio
  • 47% entering primary care
  • 18% entering internal medicine
  • 13% entering surgery and surgery subspecialties
  • 10% entering psychiatry
  • 9% entering pediatrics
  • 7% entering emergency medicine

The 129 students from NEOMED’s College of Medicine Class of 2016 who participated in the match program are among medical school seniors nationwide who received results of the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Students began applying for residency programs at the beginning of their fourth year and participated in interviews with hospital officials during the fall and winter months. Students indicated their residency preferences to the NRMP, hospitals indicated their preference of students, and the NRMP matched the two.
