COM sponsors a variety of mentoring programs that connect students with faculty members and physician mentors. These opportunities allow students to explore specialty interests, gain insight into the medical profession, and receive guidance on becoming competitive residency applicants. Through specialty speed-dating dinners, residency fairs, and the NEOEMD Connect mentoring platform, students can build meaningful mentoring relationships and expand their professional networks throughout their time in medical school.
Specialty Speed Dating Dinner
The Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) and the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland & Northern Ohio (AMCNO) host an annual Specialty Speed Dating Dinner in January. The session gives M1, M2, and M3 students the opportunity to spend time with physicians from different potential fields of specialty interest while interacting in an informal setting.
The goal of the Specialty Speed Dating Dinner is to encourage students to make important connections with practicing physicians early in their tenure as medical students by interacting with NEOMED alumni and clinical faculty in a “speed dating” format.
residency fair
The Residency Fair provides an opportunity for residency programs from our partner institutions and surrounding programs to network and share program information and research opportunities with prospective applicants. The event is open to all NEOMED medical students and allows students to gain a greater understanding of medical specialties and the residency application process while fostering relationships with program directors.

NEOMED Connect
Exclusively for NEOMED students, NEOMED Connect lets you search for mentors tailored to your career preferences.
NEOMED Connect is a database exclusive to NEOMED students, offering direct access to profiles of health professionals. Mentors will help students navigate their healthcare professional journey and make informed decisions about their future career, post-graduate training, research, organizational involvement, professional development and community service, while gaining valuable insights and potential career opportunities.
Specialty Interest Groups
A variety of Specialty Interest Groups are part of the NEOMED Student Organization network. Each of these Specialty Interest Groups have a faculty advisor who practices in that specialty and assists the group in planning speaker and physician panel events, workshops, and service activities related to their specialty.
