Office of Global Engagement

Initiate an opportunity

Students wishing to enhance their education through an international experience, such as a mission trip or present at an international conference, should schedule an appointment with our office.

Third-year medicine students who pursue an international experience in their fourth year as part of their elective rotations must complete an elective form that specifies dates, names, objectives, elective director etc.

This should be sent to Dr. David Sperling and Ms. Chris Klein at the College of Medicine. Please be sure to contact Chris Klein if you need assistance with this form.

Requirements

The basic requirements to fulfill are outlined below:

  • Four consecutive weeks of at least 32 hours per week of activity
  • Baseline objectives that meet the approval of the M4 course director
  • An elective director who is either on faculty, or is approved by the M4 course director as having appropriate credentials (If this were someone in a non-English speaking country, we would need a translated CV to verify credentials.)
  • The director acknowledges responsibility for submitting the final grade report form, which must be received no later than six weeks after the experience ends

Approval

Approval through Global Engagement depends on where you complete your rotation.

The process includes completing forms; contact Global Engagement for details. You will also need to register your travel plans and meet one-on-one with Global Engagement staff to make sure you are prepared to travel.
