Office of Global Engagement

Initiate an Opportunity

Students wishing to enhance their education through an international experience, such as a mission trip or present at an international conference, should schedule an appointment with our office.

Third-year medicine students who pursue an international experience in their fourth year as part of their elective rotations must complete an elective form that specifies dates, names, objectives, elective director etc.

This should be sent to Dr. David Sperling and Ms. Chris Klein at the College of Medicine. Please be sure to contact Chris Klein if you need assistance with this form.

Requirements

The basic requirements to fulfill are outlined below:

  • Four consecutive weeks of at least 32 hours per week of activity
  • Baseline objectives that meet the approval of the M4 course director
  • An elective director who is either on faculty, or is approved by the M4 course director as having appropriate credentials (If this were someone in a non-English speaking country, we would need a translated CV to verify credentials)
  • Director acknowledges responsibility for the final grade report form which we must receive no later than 6 weeks post experience

Approval

The approval through Global Engagement will depend on the place where you will engage your rotation; and will require you to fill out some forms as well as registering your travel plans and having a one-on-one interview with the office of Global Engagement to ensure that you are prepared to travel.
