Dr. Sharma has a research interest that focuses broadly on vascular biology and the molecular mechanisms underlying the development and progression of vascular diseases, including abdominal aortic aneurysm, hypertension, vascular stiffness, and vascular remodeling associated with diabetes and metabolic disorders. Dr. Sharma’s research investigates the cellular and molecular processes that contribute to pathological changes in the arterial wall, with emphasis on inflammation, macrophage polarization, vascular smooth muscle phenotypic modulation, and endothelial dysfunction.

Dr. Sharma’s research interest also includes the molecular mechanisms underlying Kawasaki Disease-induced coronary vasculitis and preeclampsia, with the goal of identifying pathways that may contribute to disease progression and reveal potential therapeutic targets. Dr. Sharma’s laboratory uses a multidisciplinary approach, integrating molecular and cellular techniques as well as animal models.
