Overview

The Clinical and Translational Research Institute (CTRI) offers high quality research support and services through our Biostatistics, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science Center (BIO-AID Center), research design and protocol development support, and educational offerings.

Each NEOMED faculty member (with a primary appointment and inclusive of their lab) is entitled to two free one-hour consultations with CTRI annually. All other academic and clinical partners are entitled to one free one-hour consultation with CTRI annually.

Individualized in-person appointments can be scheduled with the appropriate team member after completing our intake form.

User Fees

CTRI operates as a self-sustaining entity of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and is funded by individual users and organizations (through fee-for-statistical support/service and grant support). When we are asked to go beyond the initial consultation, then a detailed statement of work can be developed for each project. Depending on the payment source and according to our availability, we will either charge an hourly rate, create a specific contract for your project, or request a percentage effort when we participate with a grant.

Authorship

We generally follow ICMJE guidelines regarding authorship. In a nutshell, co-authorship is expected when CTRI members have made significant contributions to the research in the form of collaboration, consultation, experimental design, method development, data analysis, and/or data interpretation. Significant can be defined as “the project would not have progressed, or progressed at a substantially slower pace, without the guidance of a CTRI member”. In such cases, CTRI members should have the opportunity to review and edit the appropriate sections of a manuscript before submission. We may post citation information on our website.  This information is vital to the continued support of CTRI.

Grant Assistance

Many extramural funding proposals will not receive a favorable review without statistical or research design support. We are happy to provide letters of support and assistance with grant writing. For letters of support and assistance in writing the statistical analysis plan or research protocol, please allow at least two weeks from the time of your request. CTRI is also dependent on extramural revenues for long-term success. Accordingly, we appreciate your understanding in keeping it funded by either adding CTRI assistance to your budget or including percent effort for a CTRI member.
