Mark E. Hostettler, M.D. (‘84) – President
Internal Medicine Physicians
Dr. Hostettler received his degree from NEOMED and completed his training in Internal Medicine at Akron City Hospital. He is involved with numerous professional organizations including the American College of Physician Executives, American College of Physicians, American Society of Internal Medicine, Stark County Medical Society (past president and board member), and the American Medical Association.
Mark D. Arredondo, M.D. (‘07) – President Elect
Summa Health System
Dr. Arredondo received his degree from NEOMED as a direct entry student and holds a bachelor’s degree from Kent State University. He completed his internal medicine residency at Summa Health System. He is currently the chief university physician for University Health Services at Kent State University and is also the Medical Director for the Portage County Health District. He also worked for four years for the National Health Service Corp helping the most medically underserved in Jackson, Ala., Lima, Ohio and Akron, Ohio. Dr. Arredondo lives in Stow with his wife, Valerie, and their five children, Emily (17), Jeremy (14), Katelyn (10), Cameron (8) and Alex (8). They were foster parents for nine years and fostered and then adopted their last three children.
Todd A. Lisy, M.D. (’97) – Former President

Internal Medicine and Pediatrics
Dr. Lisy completed the BS/MD program at NEOMED, with an undergraduate degree from Kent State University. He continued his training at Akron City Hospital and Akron Children’s Hospital and is board certified in internal medicine and pediatrics. He is currently affiliated with Pioneer Physicians Network, a group of independent primary care physician practices. Dr. Lisy lives in Green, Ohio with his wife and three children and enjoys camping, fishing and weight training in his spare time.
Rochelle Rosian, M.D. (’90) – Secretary/Treasurer
Cleveland Clinic – Solon Family Health Center
Director, Regional Rheumatology
Dr. Rosian attended Youngstown State University and NEOMED as a part of the combined BS/MD program. She continued her training with a residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa. and a fellowship at Cleveland Clinic. She is board certified in rheumatology and currently serves as director of regional rheumatology at Cleveland Clinic. She also has a general rheumatology practice, with special interest in rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and lupus. After serving as president of the Women’s Professional Staff Association at Cleveland Clinic, she remains involved in planning the biannual Women in Healthcare Forum and is also involved with the Arthritis and Sjogrens Foundations. Dr. Rosian is a hockey mom to her son, Stephen, and coaches softball and supports the arts with her daughters, Sarah and Jane.

Paula V. Hendryx, M.D. (‘87)

Obstetrics and Gynecology
Dr. Hendryx was a BS/MD student at NEOMED and the University of Akron. She continued her training at Cleveland Metropolitan General-Highland View Hospital, now MetroHealth Medical Center, where she is still affiliated today. She is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and serves as an assistant professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Dr. Hendryx lives in Westlake, Ohio with her husband, Dr. Khaled Issa, a practicing gastroenterologist, and their four children.
Mehool A. Patel, M.D., M.B.A. (’98)
Summa Health System – Summit Oncology Associates, Inc.
Medical Oncology and Hematology
Dr. Patel completed the BS/MD track at NEOMED with an undergraduate degree from the University of Akron. He continued his training with a residency at Summa Health System and a fellowship at Washington Hospital Center/Georgetown University Medical Center. He received his MBA from Auburn University and is board certified in medical oncology, hematology and internal medicine. Dr. Patel currently works at Summit Oncology Associates and lives in Copley, Ohio.
Douglas E. Moses, M.D. (‘95)
Akron Children’s Hospital
After obtaining an undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Moses attended NEOMED as a direct entry student. He pursued a residency at Tod Children’s Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio and is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. He is currently affiliated with Akron Children’s Hospital, where he serves as Associate Director of the Pediatrics Residency Program and Director of Continuing Medical Education. Dr. Moses resides in Tallmadge with his wife, Denise, and his three children, Lauren, Morgan and Braden.
Karin T. Riggs, M.D. (‘88)
Mercy Medical Center – Primary Care Physicians Associates
Upon completion of her undergraduate degree at the College of Wooster, Dr. Riggs pursued her medical education at NEOMED as a direct entry student. She continued her training with a residency at St. Thomas Medical Center and Akron Children’s Hospital and is certified by the American Boards of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. Her practice, Primary Care Physicians Associates, is affiliated with Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Ohio. Dr. Riggs lives in Louisville with her husband of 36 years and has four grown children (all married) and seven grandchildren. She loves the outdoors and has a small farm with horses and chickens that provide farm fresh eggs. Dr. Riggs also enjoys sewing and does overseas missions work with her husband when possible.
Cynthia B. R. Zelis, M.D., M.B.A. (‘96)
Vice President, Clinical Integration
Dr. Zelis attended Kent State University and NEOMED as a BS/MD student. After graduating in 1996, she pursued a residency in family practice at University Hospitals of Cleveland, where she currently serves as Vice President of Clinical Integration. She also completed her Health Care MBA at Baldwin Wallace University and is a board certified family physician. She and her husband and fellow NEOMED alumnus, Brian Zelis, M.D. (’98), live in Strongsville with their children, Carolanne and Hanna. Dr. Zelis enjoys traveling and spending time with family, as well as giving back to the community in service through her church and local non-profit boards.
Shanu Agarwal, M.D. (‘00)
Summa Akron City Hospital
Dr. Shanu Agarwal has worked at Summa Akron City Hospital for five years. She completed her residency and infectious disease fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital. Her special interests include infection prevention and travel medicine. She is active in the community and enjoys her time off with her husband, two children and extended family.

Alejandro Luis Adorno, Pharm.D. (‘11)
AxessPointe Community Health Center, Inc.
Dr. Adorno is a member of the inaugural class of NEOMED pharmacy graduates. Upon completion of the program, he worked for Rite Aid in the Akron district as a staff pharmacist. He later pursued the NEOMED PGY-1 residency in community pharmacy, a shared position between NEOMED and AxessPointe Community Health Center. Upon completion of the residency program, he joined the AxessPointe team where he is employed today. Dr. Adorno lives in Kent, Ohio and enjoys hiking, geocaching with friends and canoeing.
Gregory J. Facemyer, M.D. (’96)
Austin Square Medical Group
Dr. Facemyer attended The University of Akron and NEOMED as a part of the accelerated BS/MD program and completed a family medicine residency at St. Elizabeth Hospital (now Mercy Health). After residency, he became a partner with Ohio Family Health Care Associates, Inc. before starting his own practice, Austin Square Medical Group, in his hometown of Austintown, Ohio. He is board certified in family medicine, as well as a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and works per diem as a hospitalist with a local physicians group. Dr. Facemyer lives in Canfield with his two daughters, Elisabeth and Madeline. He enjoys traveling with his girls and has a passion for colonial design, architecture and landscaping.
Monica Gray, M.D. (’17)

PGY-2 Pediatric Resident
Dr. Gray graduated from NEOMED in 2017 and is continuing her training in her Pediatric Residency Program at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland. She intends on pursuing a Pediatric Intensive Care Fellowship upon graduation from residency. In her spare time, Dr. Gray enjoys being outdoors, biking and running, finding the newest restaurant in Cleveland to try, spending time with family and friends, and volunteering within the community. She currently resides in Beachwood, Ohio.
Corrie E. Stofcho, M.D., F.A.A.P. (‘06)
Akron Children’s Hospital
Upon completion of the accelerated BS/MD track through NEOMED and Kent State University, Dr. Stofcho joined the United States Navy and completed her residency in pediatrics at Naval Medical Center in San Diego, Calif. She also served a year as Chief Resident following the completion of her residency at NMCSD. After two years as a staff pediatrician at the Naval Hospital in Lemoore, Calif., she was honorably discharged and returned to Ohio and has been working as a pediatric hospitalist at Akron Children’s Hospital since 2012. Dr. Stofcho is married to her high school sweetheart, Brian, is the proud mother of two boys, Tyler and William, and enjoys camping with her family, traveling and reading.
Michelle M. Platz, M.D. (’00) – Committee Chair
Urgent Care/Family Medicine
After completing her undergraduate education at Miami University, Dr. Platz attended NEOMED as a direct entry student. She continued her training with a residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland, where she is still affiliated today. She is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and serves in Urgent Care facilities throughout greater Cleveland. Dr. Platz lives in Concord, Ohio and enjoys working out, running half marathons and spending time with her husband and four children.
Katie C. Sheridan, M.D. (‘06)
Assistant Program Director, Family Medicine Residency
Dr. Sheridan attended Youngstown State University and NEOMED as a BS/MD student. She went on to complete her residency in family medicine at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio, where she now serves as Assistant Program Director for the same residency program. She is board certified in family medicine, and her practice includes low-risk OB. Dr. Sheridan lives in Canton with her husband, Ben, and their four children. She enjoys spending time with her family and scrapbooking.

Rajiv B. Lapasia, M.D. (’00)
An alumnus of the University of Akron and NEOMED via the BS/MD program, Dr. Lapasia continued his medical training with a residency in neurosurgery at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa. He later decided to pursue a career path in investments and finance and is currently a director at BlackRock, Inc. where he manages global healthcare, real estate and special situation investments for the firm’s small and mid-cap equity mutual funds. Dr. Lapasia is also a chartered financial analyst (CFA). He lives in Princeton, N.J. with his wife, Kavita, and enjoys swimming, basketball and spending time with his two children.
Rajiv R. Patel, M.D. (‘93) – Committee Chair

Obstetrics and Gynecology
Upon completion of the combined BS/MD program through Kent State University and NEOMED, Dr. Patel pursued a general surgery residency at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa. for two years. He then completed an OB/GYN residency at Penn State Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is currently one of two physicians at South Central Ohio OB/GYN in Wilmington, Ohio. Dr. Patel lives in Wilmington with his son, Aven, and enjoys the outdoors and coaching his son’s soccer team.
Carole A. Savan, M.D. (‘81)
Retired from Canal Physicians Group
After earning bachelor’s degrees from both the University of Akron and The Ohio State University, Dr. Savan attended NEOMED via direct entry as a member of the charter class. Upon graduation, she pursued a residency in family medicine at Aultman Hospital. A former practitioner with Akron General Medical Center’s Canal Physicians Group, she is now retired, although she continues to volunteer at OPEN M Free Medical Clinic. Dr. Savan lives in Akron and enjoys travel and reading.
Margaret Tsai, M.D. (‘03)
Rheumatologic and Immunologic Disease
A Kent State University and NEOMED BS/MD alumna, Dr. Tsai furthered her medical training with a residency in internal medicine at Summa Health System, as well as a fellowship in adult rheumatology at University Hospitals of Cleveland/Case Western Reserve University. She currently works at Lorain Family Health Center and Richard E. Jacobs Health Center as a part of the Cleveland Clinic Department of Rheumatologic and Immunologic Disease. Dr. Tsai is a resident of Kent, Ohio and enjoys traveling and spending time with friends and family.
Steven M. Willard, M.D. (‘08)

Dr. Willard completed the BS/MD program at NEOMED and Youngstown State University, continuing his training in obstetrics and gynecology at Aultman Hospital. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is currently affiliated with Aultman Hospital and Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Ohio. Dr. Willard lives in Canton and enjoys spending time with his wife, Melinda, and two sons, Hudson and Benson.
