May 27, 2021

Health care providers and community organizations have teamed up to encourage COVID-19 vaccinations in three Akron neighborhoods over Memorial Day weekend, and volunteer students from Northeast Ohio Medical University plan to be part of the effort.

The COVID Care-A-Van will make three stops in Akron between the hours of noon and 4 p.m. Saturday, May 29:

  • Noon-1 p.m. Intersection of Grant Street and Cole Avenue
  • 1:30-2:30 p.m. Intersection of Princeton Street and Bachtel Avenue
  • 3-4 p.m. St. Ashworth COGIC, 1086 Vernon Odom Blvd.

Summit County Health will provide J&J vaccinations onsite. Medical providers, including Deborah Plate Vargo, D.O., a professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and a physician at Cleveland Clinic Akron General, will be on hand to answer questions and share information about the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.

Dr. Plate recruited student volunteers to participate.
