April 10, 2020

As Ohio faces the COVID-19 pandemic, Amy Stearns Acton, M.D. (’90) has garnered widespread praise for her steady leadership as the director of the Ohio Department of Health. From Facebook fan clubs that have grown to nearly 100,00 members to t-shirts and chalk art created in her honor, there has been an outpouring of support from Ohioans praising Dr. Acton’s decisive action and clear communication when it is needed the most to educate and reassure Ohioans.

Rochelle Rosian, M.D. (’90), attended both Youngstown State University and NEOMED with Dr. Acton. She shared the following reflection:

We had several mutual friends and had fun socializing together.

What I remember most is that Amy was always smart, kind and genuine. As you know, she is resilient and grounded. She has catapulted into the spotlight and has handled herself with professionalism and humility. I remember her wide smile and hope that we will all be able to see the lighter side of her soon, once she and the Governor guide us through this dark and difficult time in medicine.I am so proud of her!
