NEOMED Alumnus Warns How Weather Can Affect Your Health

While the internet has been filled with jokes about Ohio’s most recent temperatures looking like a Powerball® drawing, a Northeast Ohio Medical University alumnus reminds patients how drastic changes in the weather can affect their health.

Michael Sevilla, M.D. (’98), an associate professor of Family and Community Medicine, recently spoke with WKBN-TV about can happen to our health when the temperature is on a rollercoaster.

Dr. Sevilla says when the weather cools down, the rhinovirus (which leads to the common cold) tends to spread at higher rates. It’s especially important for older patients to get checked if they develop symptoms such as fever, cough, headache or sinus pressure.
