NEOMED Board of Trustees Elects Paul Bishop as Chair

The Northeast Ohio Medical University Board of Trustees elected Paul R. Bishop, J.D., as its new chair during the University’s quarterly trustees meeting, Sept. 12, 2019. Bishop is chair and CEO of H-P Products, Inc., a manufacturer of central vacuums and tubing-related products.

Bishop has been on the NEOMED Board since November 2011. He served as vice chair for the last two years before being elected to his new position. The chair position became available after Robert J. Klonk, CEO of the Oswald Companies, completed his second one-year term.

In addition to his board role with NEOMED, Bishop is a lifetime trustee of Mount Union College, and a board member of both the Aultman Health Foundation and United Way Foundation of Central Stark County.  He is also a past chair and board member of the Stark Community Foundation; past board member for both the Chief Executives’ Organization and World Presidents’ Organization; and former international president of the Young Presidents’ Organization.

“We have been fortunate to have Paul Bishop on our Board of Trustees,” said Jay A. Gershen, D.D.S., Ph.D., president of NEOMED. “He’s been a trusted, collaborative leader in Stark County, Northeast Ohio and throughout the region for many years.”

“His executive leadership, business knowledge and collegial style provides the Board with a seamless transition that allows our great work in the region to continue,” added Dr. Gershen.

A veteran of the Army, Bishop served as a second lieutenant and intelligence officer. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University and a law degree from The University of Akron.

The NEOMED Board of Trustees also elected a new vice chair, Richard B. McQueen. A board member since May 2015, McQueen retired as president & CEO of the Akron-Canton Airport on Dec. 31, 2018.

The meeting, which was also Dr. Gershen’s last, was held at the Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce. During the meeting, Dr. Gershen thanked the region’s leaders who were in attendance ― Steve Millard, president & CEO, Greater Akron Chamber; Sam DeShazior, deputy mayor for economic development, city of Akron; Ilene Shapiro, Summit County executive; and Christine Amer Mayer, president, GAR Foundation ― for their collaboration and advancement of the region.

Dr. Gershen’s planned retirement ― announced one year ago ― is effective Sept. 30.
