Retired NEOMED Professor Describes Battle with ALS

ALS can affect anyone — including the physicians who care and treat for patients who suffer from the progressive neurodegenerative disease.
Dinah Fedyna, M.D. (’82), a former Northeast Ohio Medical University clinical professor of family and community medicine, now knows all too well about the illness, often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
In a recent interview with WKBN, Dr. Fedyna, along with her husband and daughter, describe what life is like with the disease, which often affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.
Since Dr. Fedyna was diagnosed with ALS, a NEOMED scholarship has been established for a third-year NEOMED College of Medicine student studying primary care.
