NEOMED Earns Tree Campus USA Recognition

Jan. 28, 2019

The Arbor Day Foundation has honored Northeast Ohio Medical University for promoting the spirit of conservation on campus.

NEOMED has earned the distinction of Tree Campus USA status, an Arbor Day Foundation program that honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation.

To obtain this distinction, NEOMED met the five core standards for sustainable campus forestry required by Tree Campus USA:

  • establishment of a tree advisory committee
    • a campus tree-care plan
    • dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program
    • an Arbor Day observance
    • the sponsorship of student service-learning projects

NEOMED’s Tree Advisory Committee is composed of students, faculty and staff from both NEOMED and Bio-Med Science Academy, the STEM+M school located on campus. The Committee meets regularly to discuss various service projects throughout the year, including providing free tree seedlings to the public on Arbor Day.
