NEOMED Teams with Community in Opioid Recovery Efforts

Addiction is stigmatized — but so is recovering from it, says Sara Dugan, Pharm.D., associate professor of pharmacy practice and psychiatry. Dr. Dugan was a panelist with other Portage County institutions and agencies at an event held recently at Hope Village Recovery Services in Rootstown.

The Record-Courier covered Sen. Rob Portman’s visit that day to see how grant dollars from the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act were being spent in Portage County.

 “In order to get approval to start treatment, they need to have a tapering plan to get them off,” [Dugan] said of the medically assisted recovery process. “For some patients it may take longer; it’s not an antibiotic course where you finish and it’s over.”
