National Forum to Advance Rural Education

NEOMED Represented at Rural Education Forum

Nov. 30, 2017

More than 500 rural education leaders and practitioners gathered from nearly 40 states to learn, network and be energized about rural education at the National Forum to Advance Rural Education held at The Ohio State University in October. Two participants from NEOMED presented at the Forum, which was focused on the theme Growing Success.

Michael Appleman, M.A. Ed., the Rural Medical Education (RMED) Pathway manager and an instructor of family and community medicine, presented a 30-minute session related to rural education, as did Laura Yeater, a second-year College of Medicine student in the Rural Medical Education Pathway program. Appleman discussed health challenges of rural communities, rural pipeline-to-practice efforts at NEOMED, and various medical education opportunities for rural students. Yeater shared a toolbox she created to provide rural educators with resources to support student success in STEM fields.Michael Appleman, M.A. Ed. and Laura Yeater
