New leadership at NEOMED Health Care

Northeast Ohio Medical University is excited to announce the appointment of Richard Wardrop, M.D., Ph.D., as Chief Medical Officer and Clinical Physician at NEOMED Health Care.
“We are honored to welcome Dr. Wardrop to this new role at NEOMED Health Care, where his leadership and expertise will strengthen our mission to improve health and train the next generation of transformational leaders in medicine,” NEOMED President John Langell, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H., M.B.A., said in the announcement.
Dr. Wardrop is a nationally recognized leader in medical education and clinical practice with extensive experience in academic medicine, leadership and patient care. He has served in key leadership roles at several prestigious institutions, including:
- University Hospitals, where he was program director for the Internal Medicine Residency at the UH Community Consortium.
- Cleveland Clinic, where he was vice chair of Academic Medicine and led the Internal Medicine Residency Program.
- University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), where he led the top-ranked combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Residency Program and served as president of the UNC School of Medicine Academy of Medical Educators.
In addition, Dr. Wardrop is a Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at NEOMED and currently serves as chair of the Internal Medicine specialty Board of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), reflecting his national leadership in advancing the field of medicine. In 2024 he received the highest honor from the American College of Physicians when he was recognized with the award of Mastership.
Dr. Wardrop completed his residency training in internal medicine and pediatrics at UNC. He is board certified in both specialties. He earned his medical degree and a Ph.D. in molecular virology and immunology from The Ohio State University.
