Pharmacotherapy of Tobacco Use Disorder

In this lecture, Dr. Dugan discusses the history of tobacco use and reviews the medications that may be effective for smoking cessation. By the end of this lecture, you will be able to: 1) identify pharmacologic targets for treatment of tobacco use disorder, 2) list the adverse effects seen with pharmacologic treatment of tobacco use disorder, and 3) compare the efficacy data for agents used for treatment of tobacco use disorder.

Nicotine: Is It Good or Bad for People with Schizophrenia?

In this lecture, Dr. Dugan discusses the impact of nicotine on schizophrenia. By the end of this lecture, you will be able to: 1) describe the actions of nicotine on neurotransmitters, 2) list potential reasons for high use of nicotine products, specifically cigarettes in patients with schizophrenia, and 3) identify evidence of nicotine’s actions in patients with schizophrenia.
