Rare Chapare Virus Explained

Yes, a new Ebola-like virus has been discovered in Bolivia. But those living in the U.S. don’t need to fear the Chapare virus unless they plan to visit the country, say experts in a Verywell article.

The article cites the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as noting that only a limited number of cases of Chapare hemorraghic fever have been found, all in Bolivia.

Richard Watkins, M.D., an infectious disease physician and professor of internal medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University, told Verywell that given the rare incidence, outside the U.S., “Americans shouldn’t stress over the Chapare virus.”
