Biography

Cynthia Ledford, M.D., is senior associate dean for Medical Education and professor of pediatrics and internal medicine in the College of Medicine (COM).

Dr. Ledford oversees all aspects of the COM’s curriculum with the responsibility for ensuring that the content, delivery, evaluation and quality improvement activities related to the curriculum are in compliance with accreditation standards. She serves as the chair of the NEOMED COM curriculum committee.

Prior to joining NEOMED, Dr. Ledford worked at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in Rochester, MI where she served as Associate Dean for Undergraduate Clinical Education and was a professor in the Department of Foundational Medical Studies. Prior to her role at Oakland, Dr. Ledford served at the Ohio State University College of Medicine in numerous positions from 1992-2018, including Assistant Dean for Curriculum Design and Innovation and Assistant Dean of Evaluation and Assessment.

Dr. Ledford has been a clinician-educator for more than 20 years. Using outcomes and competency-based design, she has developed assessments and program evaluations to help accelerate and guide learning in the M.D. curriculum. Throughout her career as a physician educator, she has developed innovative methods and outcome measures related to teaching clinical reasoning and lifelong learning, as well as professionalism and professional identity formation.

Dr. Ledford earned her medical degree from OSU and trained in internal medicine and pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospitals and the University of Cincinnati. She completed a fellowship in medical education at OSU and Stanford University’s faculty development program in clinical teaching.
