The College of Medine Student Affairs team provides a robust Academic and Career Advising (ACA) Program.
The focus of the program is to provide scheduled and consistent feedback and guidance for students using a holistic advising approach. This will include monitoring academic progress, defining career preparation, overseeing the residency application process and assisting with Match preparation. While a routine meeting schedule is available for all students, the team is available to meet more frequently if needed.
The Career Preparation Road Map [PDF] provides checklists for each meeting, along with key deadlines, to ensure students receive essential information while also allowing time for individual questions. This roadmap is designed to support students in their career journey by facilitating progress, offering enrichment opportunities and providing career advising.
While the ACA Program does monitor academic achievement there may be times when a student would need enhanced intervention, such as academic counseling to achieve success. The Student Affairs team may request a student meet with a material content lead, such as a faculty member or a course director, The Learning Center for learning and testing strategies, tutoring and time management skills or the COM Academic Success Team, a group of faculty who provide longitudinal content integration support.
The College of Medicine provides a system of advising and mentoring that is designed to provide students with the resources to build their professional network beginning with their first day of professional school.
