What is Pathways to Pharmacy?

Pathways to Pharmacy is an immersive summer camp designed exclusively for high school students. You will be introduced to the widely growing field of pharmacy and experience a medication’s life cycle from research and development all the way to clinical application.

You will also experience an abbreviated version of the curriculum at NEOMED with each day of the camp focusing on a different academic year.

Tentative Schedule

See Daily Schedule

P1 Monday (Foundational sciences)

P1 year focuses on how the body works and what happens when it stops working. This year focuses strongly on anatomy and physiology as well as biochemistry. Participants will spend time in our research labs performing experimental activities as well as participate in an anatomy lab on this day.

P2 Tuesday (Dosage forms)

P2 year starts our pharmacotherapy sequence as well as our compounding lab. A heavy focus of this year is on dosage forms and drug delivery systems. Participants will spend time in our compounding lab becoming familiar with different types of dosage forms and compounding medicated lip balms!

P3 Wednesday (Clinical Application)

P3 year focuses on problem solving and identifying appropriate medications that would be safe and effective for our patients on an individual basis. Participants will engage in a cultural awareness activity and learn about the upcoming new and exciting area of pharmacogenomics and personalized medicine!

P4 Thursday (Professional Development)

P4 year is where it all comes together. Applying didactic knowledge to real life patients and developing leadership skills are the primary goals of our fourth-year students. Participants will apply the knowledge they learned throughout the week to mock patients and polish their leadership and professional skills. The best part of P4 year- graduation! Family and friends are invited to join us for our graduation ceremony.
