The Office of the Ombuds is a confidential and neutral campus resource available to all students, faculty, and staff to aid in the effective and timely management of issues, concerns, and disputes. The primary goal of the Ombuds is to ensure that all members of the University are treated fairly, equitably, and with dignity and respect, and to serve as a catalyst for change by bringing systemic concerns to the attention of the University for resolution. text added to this page
The Ombuds refers to the International Ombudsman Association’s (“IOA”) Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics* as the framework for operations.These tenets require: Confidentiality, Informality, Neutrality, and Independence.
The Ombuds safeguards confidential communications and the identity of visitors and will not disclose confidential information without a visitor’s express permission. There are three exceptions to confidentiality.
The Ombuds is neutral and unaligned in her activities and does not take sides. The Ombuds considers the legitimate concerns and interest of all individuals affected by the matter under consideration and does not advocate for any individual or any group.
The Ombuds functions on an informal basis and does not participate in any formal adjudicative or administrative procedure related to concerns brought to the Office’s attention. Services do not replace formal channels.
The Ombuds reports to the President and operates independent of ordinary line structure. The Ombuds is free from interference in the performance of her duties and exercises discretion regarding whether or how to act involving a concern.
Meet the Ombuds
Dr. Angela E. Dash was appointed as the first Ombuds for Northeast Ohio Medical University in October 2014 by President Jay A. Gershen, D.D.S., Ph.D. As a skilled facilitator, coach, trainer, and dispute resolution practitioner, Dash serves as a confidential, informal, and impartial resource available to all students, faculty, and staff to aid in informal alternative dispute resolution.
Due to the confidential,”off-the-record” and informal nature of the Office of the Ombuds, communication with this office does not constitute notice to Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED).That means that the Ombuds is not an agent of NEOMED and does not receive official notice or accept notice of claims or complaints for NEOMED. Furthermore, the Ombuds is not a lawyer or representative of any inquirer or visitor.
