SOAR Student-Run Free Clinic Awarded $24,000

Northeast Ohio Medical University’s Office of the President recently made a donation of $24,000 to support the Student Outreach for Area Residents (SOAR) Student-Run Free Clinic. Presented Tuesday, Sept. 17, by NEOMED President Jay A. Gershen, D.D.S., Ph.D., the gift will advance the Clinic’s mission to provide high-quality, non-emergent, no-cost health care to the medically underserved residents of Northeast Ohio.

“We are proud to support the Clinic, which plays an important role in increasing access to care and improving the quality of life for community members, as well as fostering an interprofessional learning environment for students at NEOMED,” said President Gershen.

The SOAR Student-Run Free Clinic offers free primary care, chronic disease management, regular routine care, physical exams, basic labs and prescriptions for medications.

Currently, the Clinic is open three Saturdays a month, operating out of the Summa Health location on NEOMED’s campus. It plans to add an additional Saturday per month starting in January 2020.
