Direct Entry/Traditional Admission Pathway

Apply as a college graduate to medical school at NEOMED

The College of Medicine at NEOMED welcomes new students via traditional admission without having started in a provisional admission pathway with a partner university. Candidates applying to direct entry to NEOMED as a first-year medicine student should begin the application process at AMCAS. As a member of the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC), NEOMED participates in a common application service and abides by all AAMC deadlines and practices.

Who should apply?

Typical applicants to the College of Medicine at NEOMED include individuals:

  • Who have demonstrated the orientation toward practice in primary care fields
  • With demonstrated service toward medically underserved populations
  • Who have demonstrated the appreciation for the diversity reflective of the health care populations served, particularly with regard to the communities of Ohio
Application Eligibility Guidelines

All Direct Entry candidates must:

  • possess at least a baccalaureate (four-year) degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university prior to enrolling at NEOMED (Applicants may be in their final year of progress toward a degree prior to graduation at the time of application)
  • Be a U.S citizen/U.S. permanent resident (latter must submit documentation of status during application process)


Suggested academic recommendations for Direct Entry admissions:

  • Overall college GPA of at least 3.25
  • College GPA of at least 3.25 in concentration areas in math and science
  • 24 total points on the most recent MCAT examination (with a minimum of an eight in each subset)
  • Applicants who complete the MCAT2015 Examination include a total score of 500, with no less than 125 in each subset


NEOMED will not accept MCAT scores older than three years at the time of the month of matriculation.

Applicants must complete:

  • Two semesters in Organic Chemistry and Physics, or the equivalent
  • One semester of Biology, or the equivalent

Applicants are strongly recommended to have completed coursework in:

  • Biochemistry
  • Calculus
  • Cell Biology
  • Community Health
  • General Chemistry
  • Humanities
  • Human Anatomy
  • Microbiology
  • Molecular Biology
  • Physiology
  • Sociology
  • Statistics
  • Embryology

Applicants whose qualifications, experiences and interests are very well aligned with our mission, but who do not meet these minimum academic criteria, may still be considered for admission. Applicants are strongly encouraged to review our most recently admitted class profile and our mission to better gauge their level of competitiveness in our admissions process.

How to Apply

Students apply to NEOMED using the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) application as early as June 1 of the year preceding anticipated enrollment in medical school.

Step 1

Fill out your AMCAS application, choosing NEOMED as one of the schools to receive it.

Step 2

Once your application has been verified by AMCAS, NEOMED may send you an invitation to complete your supplemental application beginning July 18 and on a rolling basis thereafter.

Step 3

Watch for email notification that your file is complete and await word on a possible interview between September and April.

Letters of evaluation are neither required nor accepted for this program.

As an applicant seeking admission to NEOMED, you are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of $75.  An online payment will be made when you submit your supplemental application. 

You can qualify for a supplemental application fee waiver if you qualified for a fee waiver through AMCAS. Check “I qualify for a fee waiver” on the NEOMED supplemental application, then forward a copy of the fee waiver email you received from AMCAS to with the subject line “Direct Entry Fee Waiver”. After emailing your fee waiver, wait for further instructions from NEOMED. Do not submit your application until instructed to do so.
