Inclusion and Engagement

Striving to reflect the diverse populations we serve

Diversity is integral to Northeast Ohio Medical University’s mission, vision and values, and we are committed to meeting the diverse needs of our students, faculty and staff, as well as those of the surrounding communities in which we serve. NEOMED achieves our mission by promoting, valuing and incorporating diversity in all its forms as it enhances the quality of education for all students and creates an academic environment that allows our faculty and staff to flourish.

NEOMED is proud of our definition of diversity that includes but is not limited to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, veteran status, disability, sexual orientation, rural geographic background, gender identity/expression, socioeconomic status and first generation to attend an institution of higher learning. Diversity encompasses the representation, inclusion and engagement of these populations.

A diverse higher learning community allows students to learn and grow alongside others from all backgrounds. Given the importance of diversity to our mission, vision and values, it is our desire to see the students, faculty and staff reflect the diverse populations for which the institution exists to serve.

On June 29, 2023, the Supreme Court ruled that race-conscious admissions programs at Harvard and the University of North Carolina are unconstitutional. As a public university, NEOMED operates within the parameters of the legal and regulatory environment to serve Ohio and beyond.

NEOMED includes diversity among its strategic priorities to train and educate health professionals who reflect the communities they will one day serve. NEOMED subscribes to best practices in the use of holistic admission approaches that provide both opportunities for an array of students to thrive and successfully earn an advanced health professions degree and are compliant with applicable state and federal law.
