Bio

Dr. Woo Shik Shin is a faculty member at NEOMED, College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Shin started his journey in science from, Seoul National University, School of Medicine, where he earned an M.S. degree in Tumor biology and Clinical Oncology. Then went to the South Dakota State University for a second M.S. degree in Computer Science to learn about computational power and approaching them to solve biological problems. Dr. Shin received a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota – Minneapolis, 2016. He did postdoctoral training at the University of California-Los Angeles, David Geffen School of Medicine, Department of Neurology. Over ten years of extensive research career within biology and computer-aided drug design work led to original research articles in peer-reviewed journals include Nature Chemistry, Nature Communication, Alzheimer’s Research & Therapy, and three U.S. patents, which planned to be commercialized in multiple pharma companies.

Area of Expertise/Research Interests

My laboratory is primarily interested in drug design and discovery, protein structure/function, computational chemical biology, and bioinformatics.

Recently, we have successfully established the motif-guided drug screening pipeline by using a computer-aided drug design (CADD) approach. By the application of computational pipeline, we focus on the development and optimization of well-balanced interdisciplinary methods from in silico model to the experimental approach targeting antibacterial, antiviral, anticancer, and neurological disorder therapies.
