Prepare for commencement

There is no additional charge to order your regalia. The cost is covered by your Graduation Student Fee. All graduating students will keep your regalia (including the gown, hood, tam and tassel) and do not have to return any pieces after the ceremony. Enjoy taking lots of family photos in your regalia!
Regalia pick up

- Graduates who placed their order by Feb. 21 can begin picking up their regalia beginning April 1.
- Orders placed after Feb. 21 will be notified when regalia is ready for pick-up.
- Please plan to have regalia picked up by May 1.
- The Pod store hours of operation: Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM All graduates must ORDER your regalia online at the Commencement website by FEBRUARY 21, 2024.

All invitations, announcements, thank you notes, etc. are purchased online directly through Balfour. They are available in packages or may be purchased individually.

Attending commencement
The ceremony will be held at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall on the University of Akron campus. The hall is at 198 Hill St. in Akron.

Traffic on Saturday, May 4, 2024:
The University of Akron will be conducting their own graduation ceremonies in the James A. Rhodes (JAR) Arena. To avoid traffic from UA guests, we recommend that you enter The University of Akron via downtown, Wolf Ledges Pkwy or Hill Street. We recommend avoiding Rt. 8/Buchtel Avenue Exit to avoid traffic from the UA graduation ceremonies.

For graduates:
Proper graduation regalia is required for all degree candidates participating in commencement ceremonies. Tams, gowns, tassels and hoods should be ordered online, picked up in the NEOMED bookstore, and should be pressed and prepared by each graduate. Wear ALL pieces of your Regalia to commencement. No additional unapproved pieces may be added to your regalia.
CORDS & STOLES
Approved cords will be provided to student members of the following honor societies. No other cords should be worn.
- College of Medicine Alpha Omega Alpha
- College of Medicine NEOMED Virtuous Healer Honor Society
- College of Pharmacy Rho Chi
- College of Pharmacy Phi Lambda Sigma
Graduating black students may wear a Kente stole as a sign of their successful matriculation through higher education and the transformation of their bodies into living, breathing proverbs. Kente stoles should be procured by each graduate as they are unique to each students’ program, experience, and identity.

Regarding attire, recommended dress is professional business attire.
Presentation of Hoods
The presentation of hoods will occur during the Commencement Ceremony by your college faculty selected by the graduates. This selection process is coordinated by the Colleges as part of their awards selection process. Hoods are not placed by individuals other than these selected faculty.
Hoods are presented to students earning the Ph.D., M.D. and Pharm.D. degrees. Hoods are worn by Masters degree graduates.

Photography
Professional photographers will provide photos of each student being hooded and photos of each student receiving their diploma. These photos will be shared electronically a couple of weeks after the ceremony so that graduates can download and save them at no cost.
Video
A free MP4 download of the ceremony will be emailed to all graduates after the ceremony.
