The AHEC Student Service and Faculty Excellence awards recognize a faculty member and a senior medicine student who demonstrates a strong concern for the health care needs of underserved populations in rural or inner city communities and who has shown involvement in voluntary community service.
AHEC Student Service Award
The Area Health Education Center Student Service Award recognizes a medical student who is actively pursuing a career in primary care, preventive medicine or enrolling in a public health graduate program and who meets the ideals related to serving the medically underserved.

The AHEC Faculty Excellence Award recognizes a faculty member who demonstrates a strong concern for the health care needs of underserved populations in rural or inner city communities.
Congratulations to Michael Appleman for receiving the 2016 AHEC Faculty Excellence Award.
Nominations are accepted from NEOMED and community-based faculty including members of the AHEC Center boards of trustees each February. In one page or less, the nominator should submit the name of the person being nominated, summarizing the accomplishments that qualify the candidate for this award by addressing the criteria listed above. The nominator should sign and date the nomination.
