A. Purpose

This Policy fosters timely implementation of curricular changes to programs and courses at Northeast Ohio Medical University. It establishes guidance for curriculum decisionmaking and communication with institutional service units (e.g. Enrollment Services) that finalize and implement the approved modifications.

B. Scope

This Policy applies to all credit‐bearing courses offered by NEOMED. It includes the establishment of new courses as well as revisions to existing courses approved by college curriculum committees. This policy applies to all colleges unless otherwise noted.

C. Policy Statement

  1. Didactic Courses are instructive courses where material is typically delivered through lectures that are held in a classroom.
    1. Deadlines for submission to Curriculum Committees/Graduate Faculty Committee for vetting and endorsement:
      1. Courses for Fall Semester – February 15
      2. Courses for Spring Semester – September 15
      3. Courses for Summer Semester – November 15
    2. Deadlines for submission of approved changes/additions of courses to Enrollment Services:
      1. Courses for Fall Semester – April 15
      2. Courses for Spring Semester – November 15
      3. Courses for Summer Semester – February 15
    3. Deadline Extensions:
      1. If the deadline for the submission of Didactic Course proposal/review falls on a weekend or University‐recognized holiday, then the deadline will be extended to the first business day thereafter.
  2. “Clinical Experience Courses” (Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy) are courses predominately provided in patient‐care environments and may also include courses predominately occurring in simulated settings (e.g. Wasson Center).
    1. Deadlines for submission to Curriculum Committees/Graduate Faculty Committee:
      1. Clinical Experiences for the upcoming academic year – October 1 of the current year.
    2. Deadlines for submission to Enrollment Services:
      1. Clinical Experiences for the next academic year – December 1 of the current year.
    3. Deadline Extensions:
      1. If the deadline for the submission of Clinical Experience Course proposal/review falls on a weekend or University‐recognized holiday, then the deadline will be extended to the first business day thereafter.
