Research Interests

The Thewissen lab is interested in major morphological adaptations of mammals, and documents these using a broad variety of methods from disciplines such as paleontology, anatomy, embryology, developmental biology, and sensory biology. The lab focuses on the origin of whales (Cetacea) and the adaptations of modern whales to arctic environments. Currently, cetacean hearing and auditory trauma is studied.
