Continuing Professional Education
The mission of the Office of Continuing Professional Education is to provide quality educational activities in an interdisciplinary healthcare environment in order to enhance the knowledge, skills and performance of physicians, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals in Northeast Ohio.
Goal: To assist pharmacists, physicians and healthcare professionals to maintain and enhance their professional competencies to practice in various settings.
Target Audience: Northeast Ohio Medical University medical and pharmacy faculty, practicing pharmacists and medical clinicians. Interdisciplinary healthcare teams will be considered in many educational opportunities. Regional, national and international audiences will be considered when venue, sponsorship and topic are relevant. When appropriate, joint- and co-sponsorship will promote the Colleges’ efforts as a consortium institution to encourage an interprofessional environment.
Content Areas: Evidence-based activities will increase the knowledge, competence and/or performance of pharmacists, physicians and other healthcare providers resulting in improved patient care.
Type of Activities: Activities will be evidence-based, interactive and audience appropriate. The educational activities will utilize methods and formats deemed suitable by those planning the event. The types of activities may include, but are not limited to:
- Live conferences, workshops, seminars, practice improvement interventions
- Enduring materials i.e., DVDs, web-based courses
- Additional methods will be implemented as new technologies become available.
Expected Results: A variety of tools will be used to assess changes in learner knowledge, competence, skills and/or performance. Audience response technology, pre- and post- testing, case studies, peer interaction, survey, evaluation, and question and answer sessions may be utilized during activities. Responses will determine changes in knowledge, skill, competence and/or performance of participants as well as any potential need for future educational opportunities.
