Council of Deans
The Council of Deans is the provost-equivalent body at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) and consists of the dean of the College of Medicine, dean of the College of Pharmacy and dean of the College of Graduate Studies. The associate deans for academic affairs in both Medicine and Pharmacy are standing invitees to the Council. The functions of the Council include oversight of curricular, faculty, student and infrastructure issues that cut across College boundaries and require a University perspective.
Examples of Council of Deans functions include:
- Providing coordinated leadership for the interprofessional curriculum of the University;
- Coordinating interactions with academic, clinical and community partners;
- Recommending to the president, after appropriate consultation with other University officials, the establishment, modification or termination of Centers and Institutes;
- Responding to and interacting with external academic bodies;
- Providing oversight for University and College academic accreditation;
- Providing leadership for support functions in the academic affairs, faculty affairs and student affairs areas;
- Establishing the charge and appointing the members of the University academic standing and ad hoc committees as may be necessary to carry out the mission of the University; and
- Providing ongoing review of the standards and outcomes for faculty appointment, promotion and tenure to assure equivalency across the Colleges of the University.
The Council of Deans works closely with other shared governance bodies of the University such as the Core Faculty of the Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy and University Council.
