Pharmacy student is one of 12 to receive national leadership award

Kaitlyn Myk-Kish, a third-year student in the College of Pharmacy, was selected as a 2023-2024 recipient of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ (ASHP) Student Leadership Award.

Only 12 pharmacy students nationwide were so honored. In making the award to Myk-Kish, the society commended her for representing the “very best attributes and accomplishments of ASHP student members.”

She receives a $2,000 award from the ASHP Research and Education Foundation and a commemorative plaque.

VALUE IN BEING INVOLVED

“I am very grateful and honored to receive this award,” Myk-Kish said.  “This award means the world to me because it emphasizes how valuable and rewarding professional organization involvement can be.”

Katherine Tromp, Pharm.D., interim dean of the College of Pharmacy, offered her congratulations.

“The College of Pharmacy is so proud of Kaitlyn Myk-Kish for being one of 12 winners of an ASHP Student Leadership Award,” Dr. Tromp said. “This award recognizes students who have demonstrated leadership ability, which is one of the many strengths that Kaitlyn brings to our College and the profession of pharmacy.”

Myk-Kish thanked associate professors Jaclyn Boyle, Pharm.D., and Chris Paxos, Pharm.D., for their roles in advising the NEOMED chapter of the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and she acknowledged the hard work of its executive board and committee chairs.

Myk-Kish joined the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists in her first year of pharmacy school, ascending to president-elect in her second year and president in her third. She also attended the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting.

She is also active in such groups as Lambda Kappa Sigma, Rho Chi Honor Society and Phi Lambda Sigma.
